Key Info About The Flu Vaccine
Posted in

It’s flu vaccine time again. During the Covid-19 pandemic it is more important than ever to have the flu vaccine. The myth that you can get flu from the vaccine is unfounded as it is an inactivated vaccine. You may get flu like symptoms but not full blown flu.

It is recommended to have the quadrivalent vaccine as it has 2 A strains and 2 B strains. The choice of these strains is seasonal per year, where scientists target the strains that have the highest likelihood of making you severely ill during that year. Therefore it is more effective and gives you more protection.

The flu vaccine is recommended in pregnancy because of known consequences of influenza in pregnant women, and it is safe to use.

Babies from 6 months old can have the vaccine. Children from 6 months to 9 years old being vaccinated for the first time need 2 doses at a 4 week interval. Thereafter it is a single annual dose.

There is no need to have a second flu vaccine within one season. (First time children under 9 being the exception).

With the Covid vaccine being available in the next few months it would be wise to get your flu vaccine as soon as possible. There has to be a 4 week gap between the flu and Covid vaccines.

Keep safe, look after yourselves and your immunity by making sure you visit your local Thrive Clinic. Keep an eye on our social media for updates as to when the flu vaccines will be in stock.
